Saving The Bees
Since I grew up with bees all around me, I realized the amazing impact bees have on the environment and on people. My mother always told me about the significance of bees and how Earth needed bees to keep the world in place. Since I was a small child, I hated bees and had been deathly afraid of them; however, when I finally observed bees for the first time, I was with the way they worked together in unison to get their work done and how they never tired from their arduous work. Unfortunately, not everyone understands my passion for bees and not many people truly understand why bees are important to society. In order to protect bees from the harm people are causing them, I would like to propose a proposal. But before I do that, I would like to explain why bees are beneficial for the environment and to people. Bees are not only pollinators, but they also are needed to produce lifesaving medicine. Bees are also great role models for humans to follow and take examples from.
Bees are severely underestimated in their importance to society and the world. Most people understand and recognize that bees are pollinators; however, most people do not understand the pollination process and why it is important for bees to partake in the process. What happens when the pollination process begins in the spring is that the bees land from one flower to another to gather nectar from flowers, pollen sticks to their bodies and then when the bees' lands on another flower, the pollen gets sprinkled on that flower. The pollen that falls on the flowers from the bees' bodies works to help the flower create fruit and vegetables. Of course, most people know and understand this process well. But many people take this process for granted and they use pesticides in crops that become absorbed in the bees exoskeleton which causes the bee to become intoxicated and die.
Bees are also needed to produce medicine that cures people from various illnesses balance. When I was a young girl, I used to visit my mother in her greenhouse where she housed her bees to study them. I foolishly went into the enclosed greenhouse without proper footwear and before I knew it, I had stepped on a bee and got stung. I ran, crying to my mother and helplessly screamed for her to help me. After all the conundrum, I told my mother that I hated bees and I never wanted to be around them again. My patient mother dealt with my rage by explaining to me that a bee's venom from a sting is quite useful and can be used to develop medicine for illnesses such as chronic injuries, burns, shingles, gout, and it can even be used to treat the removal of scar tissue. Of course, this is not the main reason why bees are important; however, it could potentially be very difficult to find other medicine to treat these ailments and with bees now becoming extinct, there could be a lot at stake. Although getting stung by a bee is painful in the moment, mankind must bear the pain if they want to make the world a better place.
Not only do bees create many benefits for the human body, but they also display what hard work looks like and how to work to one's fullest every day. When I was going through elementary school, I became very unmotivated to do my schoolwork. I daydreamed of running away from my home and becoming a famous actress that was adored by many. No matter how hard my mother tried, she could never get me to stay still in a chair for more than thirty minutes. My mother became very distressed at my lack of interest in my schoolwork and decided that when I complained about doing my schoolwork, I could go with her to the big bee farm. So, my mother and I hopped in her car, and we went to her bee farm. There were rows of manmade beehives that reached to the end of the property. I was told to sit down and watch the bees. A few minutes later I finally realized that the bees left their house in search of pollen and returned to their house and continued this cycle till night which was when I had to leave. By observing the bees’ diligence that pushed me to work just as hard in my schoolwork and everything that I accomplished. Though I can’t say for sure this will work for everyone, watching bees is a great way to gain motivation to do work, finish a project, or just get out of bed.
As I mentioned earlier, although honeybees are amazing creatures, they are rapidly nearing extinction. Pesticides, such as insecticides, have been destroying the bee population. In 2013, the annual bee hive deaths were forty to fifty percent more than previous years. Many people have worked to create a ban on the use of pesticides, but pesticide manufacturers argued that the ban could inhibit food production. Since implementing a ban on pesticides in America could be costly and there is not enough evidence that all pesticides affect bees, I would like to create a research center that is dedicated to finding the main cause of bee extinction. If I can pinpoint a certain type of pesticide that is mainly affecting bees, then I can put a ban on that pesticide and pray that the population of bees grows. Since pesticides are not the only cause of bees dying, I would also like the research center to find other reasons why bees are dying so that way we can help fix that problem as soon as possible. No more bees should have to die, and to ensure that the most wonderful creatures that ever roamed the Earth do not go extinct, I will make sure this research center has some of the best scientists working together to fix this problem.
